The Mold Investigator Kit comes in a variety of sizes for different size homes. The standard five collector kit is the choice kit for most home owners. Large home owners may need the 8 collector kit, while renters should consider the 1 and 3 collector options.

The Mold Investigator Kit uses DNA analysis of mold to achieve 99.9% accuracy.  The included mold collection devices capture spores hidden in household dust. U.S. EPA reasearch identified house dust as the primary mold reservoir in homes and that dust provides the most reliable measure of the mold burden in a home.

Do not be mislead to believe that standard air sampling provides a good measure of mold in a home. EPA research found that mold concentrations in the air change rapidly because of airflow. Inspectors typically collect a 5 minute air sample which is akin to only seeing a few frames of a movie. It is easy to envision how often air sampling fails to capture spores when sampling is that brief. 

Unlike an air sample, dust is deposited continuously 24 hours a day. Time is the key, because even if spores are only in a room for a short period of time, some will deposit in the dust, and are easily detected with DNA diagnostics.

A significantly elevated mold burden in a room indicates that mold is growing behind walls, above ceilings, or is entering the room from a concealed location that is colonized with active mold.

Identifies Toxic Black Mold:

Many molds appear black. However, toxic black mold refers to a single species of mold known as Stachybotrys chartarum. This mold has been studied extensively, and is known to concentrate potent mycotoxins inside its spores. When people are exposed to this mold they breath in the spores. The spores get trapped in the lungs and nasal passages, breakdown, and release toxins. DNA is the premier diagnostic tool to identify this toxic species of mold. DNA diagnostics can detect a single spore of toxic black mold in a sample.
