Garage Fumes VOC Panel

$306.00

The Garage Fumes VOC Panel tests for four common volatile organic compounds (VOCs) found in gasoline and other petroleum products that can evaporate into the air from a garage/workshop and infiltrate the home.

Exposure to BTEX compounds can cause acute symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, respiratory irritation, and nausea, while chronic exposure may lead to severe health issues including central nervous system damage, liver and kidney damage, and increased cancer risk, particularly leukemia from benzene exposure.

One air sample is taken from inside the home and a second from the garage. Based on this comparison it can be determined if improvements in the garage and/or home need to be made to enhance indoor air quality.

Analytes Tested

  • Benzene: found in paints, adhesives, detergents. A known carcinogen, can cause dizziness, headaches, and long-term exposure can lead to bone marrow damage and blood disorders like leukemia.
  • Toluene: found in paints and adhesives, affects the nervous system.
  • Ethylbenzene: used in paints, varnishes, and as a solvent. Can cause throat and eye irritation dizziness, and headaches. Long-term exposure may affect the liver and kidneys.
  • m-Xylene: present in solvents and fuel; sweet odor.

What you Need to know about VOCs

  • Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are chemicals that easily evaporate into the air at room temperature.
  • To Reduce Exposure
  • Increase Ventilation when using products containing VOCs,
  • Use low-VOC products
  • Store products properly: keep containers tightly sealed when not in use.
  • Air out new items: let new furniture, carpets, or building materials off-gas outside or in a well-ventilated space before brining them indoors.
  • Exposure Limits The EPA recommends keeping VOC levels in a home as low as possible by reducing sources and increasing ventilation.
  • Baseline Levels Establishing baseline levels is one step in protecting your family from harmful VOCs. Once
