The Garage Fumes VOC Panel tests for four common volatile organic compounds (VOCs) found in gasoline and other petroleum products that can evaporate into the air from a garage/workshop and infiltrate the home.
Exposure to BTEX compounds can cause acute symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, respiratory irritation, and nausea, while chronic exposure may lead to severe health issues including central nervous system damage, liver and kidney damage, and increased cancer risk, particularly leukemia from benzene exposure.
One air sample is taken from inside the home and a second from the garage. Based on this comparison it can be determined if improvements in the garage and/or home need to be made to enhance indoor air quality.
