The experts say that fungal species identification is the key to an accurate mold exposure assessment. The American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists included a whole chapter dedicated to mold exposure assessment in the 1999 publication “Bioaerosols: Assessment and Control.” However, many investigators do not follow these guidelines and continue to use technology that not only provides genus level accuracy, like a spore trap. The biases of spore trap and culture based inertial impaction technologies are becoming non-issue when investigators elect to use advanced mTrap technology.
