Those hidden molds produce spores that become airborne and slowly settle onto surfaces over time. The Big 2™ Mold Test Kit was developed by Assured Bio Labs to give homeowners, renters, and inspectors a fast, scientifically accurate way to detect the most harmful indoor molds present in settled dust.

Why Test Settled Dust?

Dust is a natural reservoir for airborne mold spores. It accumulates over time from the air circulating through your home, making it an ideal indicator of past and present mold problems—even when no mold is visible.

With a single swab of settled dust, the Big 2™ test provides a time-integrated snapshot of your home’s mold exposure history. The test uses molecular technology to read the mold DNA in your swab sample. The DNA is used to calculate spore counts and species or genus level identification.

The Big 2™ identifies the two most common types of harmful mold found in buildings:

Stachybotrys chartarum (commonly referred to as toxic black mold)
Penicillium/Aspergillus group (which includes numerous allergenic and toxigenic species)

How the Kit Works

Collect a dust sample using the sterile swab provided.
Mail the sample using the included return packaging.
Receive an easy-to-read report within five business days, including:
- Total spore count for each mold group detected
- Interpretation of risk level
- 15-minute consultation with a mold specialist from Assured Bio Labs

All samples are analyzed at our AIHA-accredited laboratory in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. No third-party processing—your data is handled by experts from start to finish.
